     The USPTO registers trademarks for the US Dept. of Commerce.   
They also have a search engine (TEAS) that you can use to make sure  
that your trademark, trade name, or patent is unique.  Don't fall for  
scams that offer to register your T'Mark for you.  The DIY cost is  
about $200 - $500 through USPTO directly, depending on your
