We recently had a song placed in an instructional module (lesson books and a multimedia DVD) that goes to all the schools in a Canadian province (about 800 copies). Because they share their ed materials with other countries they needed us to grant a world-wide non-exclusive license, which we did. Our song is played underneath related video content and is on a multimedia CD. They are also making the material available on their password protected website, which is exclusive to the teachers in their province. We received our sync license fee from the province in a timely fashion.
With this kind of placement, does anyone know if there is compensation to be had from my PRO? We're in Minnesota and MN writer/publishers go through BMI's NY office. I'd call them and ask, but I never seem to get through to a live person in writer/publisher relations. I leave messages and they don't return my calls. I've thought about switching from BMI to ASCAP, but don't know that we'd fare any better.
