[Fmpro] (no subject) - the power of the score

Claude, absolutely Umiliani was a superb talent. I find no end of delight in
the fact that one of the most fondly remembered moments of musical innocence
from our youth (for we Americans), the delightful Muppet show rendition of
Mah Na' Mah Na, comes from Umiliani's score for a sleazy and wholly
exploitative Italian mondo "documentary expose" of life in Sweden, SVEZIA:
INFERNO E PARADISO (SWEDEN: HEAVEN AND HELL). Also, any here who treasure
the work of jazz legend Duke Ellington surely need to get a hold of Piero
Umiliani's stunning score for LA LEGGE DEI GANGSTERS (GANGSTER'S LAW).
Umiliani was a true maven of the idiom and his work on GANGSTER'S LAW is a
great masterpiece of sublimely controlled orchestral jazz. Both scores are
still available on Rocco Pandiani's Easy Tempo label (Pandiani needs to be
credited for boldly pioneering the 90s resurgence of interest in
Umiliani). - JohnB
