I think you have a lot of passion and a big heart to put that kind of
info into an online production. I know you want to keep it buddy buddy
but you might really consider scripting yourself and editing so that
every sentence is perfect and concise. Because what you end up with is
a lot of really good info and a lot of well felt intent lost in a
little scattered thought. I watch it and I see a professional showing
how unprofessional he can be. But your genuine interest to educate
overshadows it and it still has great value but I bet you could get
your ideas to a lot more people with a little different production
approach ;-)
I also don't necessarily agree on some of your points, like not
arguing with a director. Some of the greatest composers in the world
are very confrontational. While of course the director has a viewpoint
of what the score should sound like and yes he ultimately controls
your status, you are paid to be the ultimate expert in translating
emotion and ambience into music. So you GOT to have balls enough to
stand up for what you know is right. You have to know when to accept
the directors judgement also and not get fired, but its up to you to
understand how to verbalize why you feel something at a certain time
with the director and not just be a kiss-ass "yes" man. Of course you
need to accept critique as well and be willing to bend but not always
especially when you feel strongly about it. I think you should be
teaching kids to have more balls today, how to discover a self worth
that is high enough to know you deserve to get paid well, to know you
are the expert and should be driving the conversations about the music
portion of your project ;-)
Thanks tho George, as much as a am critical I also enjoy your youtube
sessions, good luck with it!
