These days, it mostly comes down to personal preference, but remember than
Mac is still the industry standard in most creative industries. If you need
to take your session into a pro studio, 9x out of 10, you're going to have
to put your session and/or media files on a mac-formatted firewire drive
(unless you want to waste 20 minutes of studio time copying from a thumb
drive or dvd-r). Mac has more options for DAW's. And Final Cut Pro and
Avid both run on Mac only. Protools has a larger Mac user base, and is much
more stable on a mac than a PC. This is especially true for TDM systems.
One of the few reasons to buy a PC over Mac for digital audio was
Gigastudio. Almost everything else runs on both platforms or mac-only.
It's probably not worth switching, once you've started down one road or the
other, but if a fellow composer was going to start building a new system
from scratch, I would recommend Mac every time.
My 2 cents...
Eric
