I would be doing exactly what I am doing except that I would spend as much
time as needed for perfection and inspired music and never waste energy
writing lame ad jingles for used car dealerships and other energy saps

I am trying hard every day to make that balance. Sometimes I am successful,
sometimes not. But I have turned down 6 figure jobs in tech to be poor and
working full time on my music. If money was my only thought I could call up
some folks at Microsoft or Adobe or Google and be paid pretty decently. But
I believe that the same amount of energy, intellect and focus goes into the
craft of making music in today's world as goes into any of those 6 figure
software engineering jobs. Plus the music is filled with my life-essence, my
soul. Even the cheesiest of cheese ad jobs I do still has a little part of
me inside them. That price tag is priceless. In the very least I feel that
at the level of which I compose, orchestrate, edit, notate, mix, produce,
etc I should also be getting paid 6 figures working for the man or I should
have ample opportunity as a self employed entrepreneur to do the same. And
while I believe as I progress in my career I undoubtedly will achieve one or
both of those scenarios. But the prospects are getting slimmer and scarier
each year passing. Instead of equating my mental prowess to software
engineering, I am being equated to a hot-dog vendor who operates on a lone
hiway in the middle of rural Alaska

Pete is there a Toon-Fairy? That will come and leave me handfulls of gold
krugerands under my pillow when I leave a CD there? 

GAH I just had a vision of Pete with wings and a pink tu-tu and a pink
stratocaster fluttering over my bed with fistfulls of money..... AI! AI!
