the ONLY reason I'm here is b/c my parents convinced me to come down here. They've been here since 2002 and live very close to me. I now have an aunt, uncle and 3 cousins also in Rock Hill (works for Shermin Williams) which is nice but there is simply NO economy for music whatsoever here. I didn't realize you lived so close!! If you're ever up here let me know and we can have lunch or something! (803) 322-1927 (cell). I don't know where that phone is at the moment as I'm cleaning my house!

You're right! I'm in Columbia and ARGH!!! Too damned hot!

Not to mention...

1. The market for original music in South Carolina has gone from "OK",
to "almost none" over the last 10 years. I made a very good living for
years scoring TV and radio spots, industrials and documentaries.

Now, it's "Why should we pay you $1000 when we can use this library
stuff here for (almost) free?"

2. If you mentioned residuals or a per market license for music on a
commercial, you'd get dropped quicker than hot potatoes. It's just not
done here. I've got spots that I scored 15 years ago that I *still* hear
on air from time to time, and I've never gotten a single dime over the
$500 they paid to start with - and if I had demanded residuals past a
certain time period, I wouldn't have gotten the original $500 either.

3. If you're from and working in South Carolina, you're not "good
enough" for a major project. This happened to me a lot. The agency would
want to use me, but the client would demand "Somebody from South
Caroina? You're kidding, right? You've got to hire a New York or LA
Composer for this" - without even listening to what anybody here could do.

This is the deep south! Music from here? Nobody but us bar-b-que eating
rednecks! We had our minute of fame with Lynyrd Skynyrd! That's all
anybody remembers. You're guilty by association!

If you're interested in makig a living with music, my best advice to you
is to **ESCAPE** South Carolina as quickly as you can!!! You'll die a
slow death here!!

If my wife and I didn't have so many connections and other things going
on here, we'd be out tomorrow!!!!
