[Fmpro] Cubase 4 pops and clicks when starting and stopping playback

Anyone know why? In DP 5.13 I have no problems, but I have been  
revisiting Cubase 4.1.3 this week and finding that whenever I hit the  
start or stop button i get some crackles and they are in the bounce to  
disc versions...Mostly I used Cubase when I was using a PC for my daw  
and now back on the mac I am mostly using DP. But there are some  
really really nice features in Cubase that DP doesnt have and so I  
have been messing with it. Any ideas?

I am using:
Mac Pro (intel) Quad core Xeon 2.6 w/ 9 gigs ram
OSX 10.5.4
Motu PCI-424 card with 2 2408 MKIII modules
Cubase 4.1.3

I am experiencing this in a "mastering" template with a single stereo  
audio file loaded, 48k 24bit, project settings match the file. I have  
tried all different types of buffer sizes and whatnot in the device  
setup panel

kind of stumped...
