"There is no way anyone could dissuade me from believing that film music of
the past is not superior to most (not all) of what is being created now"
I hear that - One of my favorites from the past is Nelson Riddle -
interesting posts!

Sometimes the cultural efforts of the past are better than what happens
contemporaneously. Of course the reverse can also occur: 70s sartorial
fashion was inferior to what followed - and to what preceded (and no doubts
about it). Or: painting of the 1980s (neo-expressionism) was superior to
painting trends of the 70s (all brain, no flesh). There is no way anyone
could dissuade me from believing that film music of the past is not superior
to most (not all) of what is being created now. A general trend (please,
Dear God) to reference past "styles" would be a positive development in
scoring. Any way I can hear some of your stuff Pete? - JohnB
