No snobbery. Many of Hans Zimmer's scores are extremely effective
too. His skill set
is totally different than Williams'. I think in today's world, where
some scores are "composed"
by Herrman-types and some scored by DJs or Metal-Rock bands that
distinction should be
made. Not better or worse. Not fun or boring. Just different.
Perhaps. I enjoy Trevor Rabin's scores (Armaggedon, National Treasure) but
how many scores are going to be, effectively, theme and variations on themes
from "GLADIATOR?" Is this great innovator's invention: score one film, spin
that score out for another dozen. get paid like each is an original. Even
Zimmer used a small melody from Armaggedon in Gladiator. And too much of
Gladiator was a rip off of "Mars" from "The Planets" no matter what Zimmer said
about it.
