Oh man I hate conducting, because I suck at it... at Berklee we had to do the rite of spring for the final and stravinsky would have smacked me with a music stand or 5 for the way i butchered it lol. I have massive conductophobia now and when I get rare opportunity to record with live strings I try and get a conductor to come and represent me. Its really the bassoon players i fear, you know that they are making cracks about your baton style as soon as you are out of earshot! I'm ok with a big band and a pencil, but give me a real orchestra... AHHHH... if I record in NYC sometime will you come conduct for me Marinho? :)

Thank you John... You're too much...It's not as big of a deal as it seems. I tookconducting and Composition there and for a few years, and I guess I just took my picksin a favorable way as far as what choices on conducting repertoire. Mozart is considered theeasy part on conducting, believe it or not, so Iwent to the Maestro and showed him a book with allof his overtures and said I'd do the whole book(7 of them all together). He frowned and then said ok,but that I would have to jump into other stuff that'sharder after that. That's when my troubles started...My first assignment was Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony(another one you should definitely check out, although not Opera, a trully amazing masterpiece) It took me four classes and 30 days studying straight to get through the first movement alone (almost 19 minutes). It changesfrom 9/8 to 3/4 then 2/2 at least twice during it's courseand that's the real crash test. Once I was done, I then realizedwhat a rookie I really was co! mpared to many other conductors.Today, I got a little better, good enough to conduct my ownstuff, which is why I started doing it anyway. But I have learned that becoming a skilled conductor is a lifetime affair, filled with tons of work, passion and dedication. People like Herebert Von Karajan on my book, came literally from another planet !*****************************************Holy crap - along with being a skilled composer you've conducted Mozart at Julliard? I am worthy to sit at your feet. I'm sorry but such accomplishments I hold in very high regard. - JohnB Marinho Nobre Music for Motion Picture score at marinhonobre.com Voice 347-424-4985 Fax - (718) 210-3151 http://www.marinhonobre.com http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1971862/ _______________________________________________ The Film Music Pro List is sponsored by Film Music Magazine - http://www.filmmusicmag.com Best of FMPRO: http://www.fmproquotes.com - Quotes site by Billy Hale Music To edit your list options or unsubscribe, visit: http://nxport.com/mailman/listinfo/fmpro
