Sometimes, you need to kick someone to the benches so the rest
of the team can play to win. The good news is that the remaining
players usually thank you for it.Yes Susan...

And that's exactly what happened after my episode. Everyone else got it, and
even with a player short everything sounded tight. As far as the other musicians,
no one was upset at me, pretty much the oposite. I got rid of a burden they
were having to deal with.

That was pretty much my point here, I guess I did not make it clear enough at
first. No one needs to walk into a rehearsal with a gun and balbearing chains
to get a team to perform. However, sometimes and more often than we wish
you get the smart ass who thinks he/she can deliver a lousy performance and
still laugh at your face.

I work on the film business and although I am yet to get a large orchestra to
conduct (due to budget restrains on indie films) I am willing to be pro-active
and ready should the worst happen, based on my prior experiences with smaller
groups I have conducted in school and on some of my recent projects.

Being the film industry one of the most unforgiving ones
around, the composer could be easily blamed (specially if he/she
is the actual conductor) and even fired/replaced simply because
the cello players had a bad day, or the oboist woke up with his/her left foot.

With my utmost respect for the serious musician,
I must say that in my world, I guarantee you that some heads are
gonna roll and way before mine does...
