[Fmpro] Marinho's ASCAP

It wasn't my "F-bomb" Mark. But for what it's worth I do have the nasty
habit of using foul language. My wife is frustrated by how long it is taking
me to get over this. I do much better avoiding cussing on-line, it must be
easier to tame the fingers than the mouth.
It is not my place to respond to the issue of business/money/ASCAP
technicalities being discussed here. I am not a musician, my professional
affiliation with music is as a journalist and I am respectfully grateful to
be a member of this board. I view it as an extreme privilege that here at
FMPRO I am allowed to be in association with composers. If I may humbly
express an opinion, I think it would be a given that you guys would meet
here and hash over your shared business problems. If not here, then where?
In that I am a trained artist (painter), I do feel I have the right to
argue for the validity and overwhelming importance of musicians also using
FMPRO as a place to share ideas and opinions about the science and esthetics
of music. You gentlemen have a great opportunity here. Usually the joy of
highly cultured and intellectually profound discourse amongst matured
artists ends when they leave University with their Masters or Doctorates.
The studio for a painter or composer can be a lonely place. After leaving
grad school I frequently hungered for such heated and meaty debate and
fellowship.
I regret Mark that you seem to have engaged in scholarly congress with
certain assholes (told you I swore) who reacted as such to your views and
visions as regards the Arts. Don't let the immaturity of a few stop you from
sharing with me and others of FMPRO your deepest thoughts about the methods
and meanings of Art. You have my solemn vow I will not get "overly"
emotional. I am a professional, and I believe most of this board's
membership are also. The most exciting minds belong to creative people, and
I want to know what they are thinking and I desire to be gifted with
insights into how they create! - JohnB
