well when I call a plumber yeap I call the guy in the phonebook. Its
hard to know if they are union or not, but honestly if i saw a
plumbers local shield on their yellow page ad I am sure more likely to
call them. But really a plumber to clear out my can is equivalent to a
film student working on his film project, or a weekend warrior with
the few hundred bucks in budget coming from his 401k

But when a contractor building a new hi rise downtown calls plumbers,
which is equivalent of a feature film, you're damn straight he's
getting union guys, and hes getting the best plumbers who are skilled
arc welders or whatever those folks are specialized in

As for clothes I have no idea where my girl buys em, and I think thats
not really a fair comparison since the clothing/seamstress market has
been hosed for generations now, its in as bad shape or worse than
composers. Thats why we have 10 year olds working 18 hour days for
$0.50 a week in El Salvador sewing clothes for the GAP :p
